Does anyone know how to hike Mt. San Miguel 1 Year, 7 Months ago Karma: 2
I want to hike Mount San Miguel (right near Spring Valley), the one with all the news station towers on the summit. I found the access road to the top on google earth but cant find any information on hiking paths. I believe this is the highest point near the coast so it must have a great view of downtown/the bay and TJ.

Any insight please let me know.

Thanks.

I hike this mountain all the time. It is a great hike with some nice views on clear days.

Here are directions to the trailhead. Take 805 South and exit on H street east. Keep going east and you will cross route 125. H street turns into Proctor Valley Road. Take a left on Duncan Ranch Road. Find a place to park and do not worrry about your car as it is a residential neighborhood. Walk back to Proctor Valley road and take a left. Walk about 1/4 mile (approx) and look hard for a trail up and to your left. It can be hard to find because this initial part of the trail is covered by ground cover landscaping. This google map link shows the rest of the trail.

Another great place to start is Sweetwater Regional County Park located at 3218 Summit Meadow Road, Bonita, CA 91902
It's a county campground so they have great maps of all the different trails and plenty of parking. I hike here often and like to try different trails. Here's the info:

Hours: Camping, 24 hours/day. Day use, 9:30 a.m. to sunset.

Phone Number: 619-472-7572

Directions: From Interstate 805 South exit Bonita Rd (Exit 7C). Head east to San Miguel Road. Continue approximately 2 miles and turn left on Summit Meadow Road.

Easter Sunday I hiked the southern route from Proctor Valley. Initially following a ridge line just east of the golf course. Then UP. Stunning view of eastern and southern peaks (from Otay, Tecate, to Cuyamaca, El Cap, etc.) It's a sturdy climb, and rare to find other hikers, though footprints remain on the trail.

Hey mdemploi,

There was definitely other people on the trail on Easter Sunday. I was on the trail from 7am-9:45am. We hike the southern Proctor Valley route. We saw another group of 3 and their three dogs. We also saw two solo hikers.

Hiking again tomorrow (4/19). Usually hit the trailhead about 7am or so.

I stand corrected. ...a sin of omission... I hiked at sunset (5-7pm). Those were your footprints and paws I saw!!
