“My Husband and I hiked the Desert View Trail on a beautiful New Years Day. At 2.25 this is a very scenic loop. Good elevation gain to “Glen’s View” for great views of surrounding peaks and the desert. Foliage has recovered in the years since the last fire, chaparral is about 2-3 feet tall.”

re: dog / family friendly
I recently visited the park. There families, dogs, laughter in abundance. The weather was cool at night and hot during the noon time. We used tent sites with partial shade. It was nice to have a portable canopy as well. The bathrooms are clean and maintained. The quite hour also was respected. Our group of 8 (ages 5-50) walked the nature trail from our campsite with only a tad of whining and two children getting pigging back the last few yards 🙂
Deer were observed on the drive in. For a close to town park you can't beat it. Reservations a must unless you are day picnicking which is also an easy/close day trip
