Pacific Crest Trail
Start the hike on the fire station side of 79. Crossing the barb wire and going under the bridge is not fun. The hike begins as a cool, shaded hike along the San Ysidro creek for about 1 mile. First mile or so is gradually uphill. Didn’t see any animals but the area looks like prime Turkey and Mule Deer country. After a short while the trail opens up onto a broad, gently rolling plain. Lots of cows grazing in the fields. Lake Henshaw is in view off in the distance. Eagle Rock is approached from behind. There’s a sign directing you to take the trail around the front side of the formation to view the “Eagle”. This is a great rest/lunch spot. Return back the same direction you came in. The shaded creek is a refreshing way to start and end the hike.

“There is no barbed wire From Hwy 79 simply open the gate adjacent to the fire station (same side) to access the southbound PCT trail leading to Eagle Rock. There is a parking lot across the street from the fire station at the Resource Center where you can use a bathroom when they are open. No need to park off 79. There is another gate across the fire station. That gate takes you northbound on the PCT. Also a beautiful walk in the pasture / valley.”
