Some tips:

For Middle Peak:

The bushwhack is going to be tremendous. When you get to the point of the trail on the northern side of the mountain when it looks like the trial is going to stop climbing, look to your left. There should be an area of fallen/burnt trees and some thick brush above that. The actual peak, where there is a cairn and a summit register, is up through that brush, which, at times can be higher than you.

Some helpful people have tied pink and metallic ribbons at various places to give you an idea where to go, but it won't be easy. It will suck up a lot of time to get up there. Wear long pants and long sleeves if you can. Gloves could help, too.

For Japacha:

Go around to the West side of the mountain, when the main trail bends east, where there looks to be an open area. Keep going around and you will see a way up, follow cairns and ledges of rock to your left that act like stepping stones to the top. Wish I would have seen that on the way up. There's a summit register there, too.

Have fun!

Great photos, that is one of the most unique hikes we have here in San Diego. I am glad you were able to do it!

December is usually a very nice time to go hiking down here. It's usually pretty dry, but cool enough to get out on the trail, even when it's sunny. It's my favorite month. Anza-Borrego and the higher mountains, like Cuyamaca and Mount Laguna, can get pretty cold, so bring layers, but it usually warms up enough for a perfect day of hiking.

You won't be disappointed.

It can rain, though, so keep an eye out on the weather report.

Out every week i can be. Just got back from hiking the Appalachain Trail and while you call this mild its a bit hotter then Maine. Im glad to be back and either doing the mud caves out east or El Cajon space preserve (i love this one)
